Environmental Health & Safety Manager

Respected world-wide leader in the specialty heavy/civil construction industry seeking motivated process-oriented safety professional to oversee environmental health & safety on projects within their North American group. Seeking safety professional with 5-10 years experience in the heavy/civil, bridge, or cast-in-place structural concrete industry. The group’s territory encompasses the United States and Canada. Accordingly, significant travel will be required for this role. The Environmental Health & Safety manager is responsible for all aspects of project safety and compliance and is instrumental in developing and maintaining health & safety culture throughout the group.


Responsibilities:

Work independently to achieve goals outlined by management. Develop and update company standards, policies, and manuals as related to health and safety based on field practices and current regulations. Developing and maintaining Jobsite Hazard Analysis (JSHA) and Field Level Risk Assessment (FLRA) programs. Presenting company standards, policies, manuals, and JSHA program to and implementing with field workforce. Conduct field health & safety audits of jobsites within the group’s territory. Present observed risks and safety implementation progress to management on a regular basis. Prepare project-specific safety submittals and coordinate with customer’s safety staff. Ensure compliance with project-specific safety standards for PPE, fall protection, confined space access, etc. Attend project startup safety meetings, as required. Incident/accident reporting, documentation and analysis. Coordinate personnel training as required for compliance with safety standards. Maintain safety records and documentation as required for compliance. Track personnel training validity and coordinate recertification as required for compliance with safety standards.

Requirements:

BS degree in Safety & Occupational Health Applied Sciences preferred. Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or equivalent for candidates who have held significant field safety professional positions in the construction industry. 5-10 years experience in field safety in the heavy/civil, bridge, or cast-in-place structural concrete industry. Construction Health & Safety Technician (CHST) and/or Certified Safety & Health Manager (CSHM) certificate desirable. Familiarity with OSHA, CAL-OSHA and CCOHS safety standards preferred. Ability to work in & communicate with diverse groups from field technicians to senior management. Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office suite and email. Fluent in both English & Spanish desirable.

Salary:

$85k-$110k *Depending on experience, education, & certifications

Location:

Variable during year 1. Relocate to Illinois during year 2.
