General Manager – Alternate Products Division


The General Manager has full profit and loss responsibilities for the entire division and should have a full understanding of profit/loss statements, construction accounting, and making sure the job builds vs bid process results in positive, profitable results. The GM also leads the sales and marketing activities in the assigned geographical territory and/or market segment with primary emphasis on cold mix paving, cold in place recycling, full depth reclamation, and chip sealing. They will be supported by a team of operating managers, estimators, and project managers who will work up pricing for quotations, execute bid documents, and run projects.

The role will require frequent road travel to visit current and potential customers and job sites. They will need to speak with DOT residencies and officials and attend public conferences and conventions. The goal of these visits will be to spread knowledge about the processes we implement and to encourage both public and private entities to use them. This person will also attempt to educate consumers on our processes and proactively involve operations in writing future contract specifications through industry groups. A such, this person will need to become an expert on our processes, understanding the engineering and science behind the process, the quality control process, and the real-world applications.

Due to the size of the territories and extensive number of pavement treatments we provide this person will need to be well organized and plan to maximize the benefit of each trip. Overtime we hope this person will grow to become an industry leader on these topics and help to train future generations of employees and customers on the topics. We may also ask that they sit on industry committees on certain topics to maintain their expertise and to keep their knowledge of industry developments current.

The General Manager shall also work closely with the HR Team and develop and prepare SMART goals, conduct performance reviews and manage discipline issues when necessary. The General Manager needs to have strong leadership skills and be able to motivate people.


Drive performance and seek growth opportunities for the alternate products operation (cold mix paving, cold in place recycling, full depth reclamation, chip seal).

  3. Visit sites to inspect projects and check on customers. Travel to and speak with customers frequently demonstrating an ability to bring construction materials to market.
  4. Foster and maintain long term professional relationships with industry leaders.
  5. Proven understanding of construction cost analysis, estimating, and bidding and accurately understanding and interpreting contractual documents
  6. Keep a consistent 2-week lookahead schedule process.
  7. Collaborate with superintendents and project managers to market our processes and communicate frequently on project progression.
  8. Understand regional market dynamics and assist in the execution of tactics to enhance construction division performance by effectively communicating with engineers and customers on project developments.
  9. Attend industry conferences to keep a current understanding on developments.
  10. Participate in developments in industry specification changes.
  11. Continue enhancing image in the construction industry as the supplier and employer of choice in the paving construction materials market by continuing to reinforce company vision, values, and goals.


Minimum of three (3) years commercial construction or materials supply or sales experience, preferably in road construction, and/or a college degree, preferably in engineering, communication, marketing, or a related field of study. Knowledge of construction standards Excellent inter-personal skills and decision-making abilities Strong Communicator Proven skills for prioritizing and follow up. Strong analytical skills. Ability to interact effectively with others and resolve conflicts. Track record of strong organizational skills Ability to work in a fast-paced environment. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suit
