Health & Safety Manager

Description:

Reporting to the Safety Director, The H&S Manager will be responsible for the occupational health, safety and loss control management of our plant facilities and job sites based in MA & NH. This position will work closely with all levels of management and hourly employees to ensure environmental, safety and health work standards and methodologies are communicated and targeted goals are achieved through individual as well as team based objectives and strategies. The H&S Manager will also work to ensure implementation and continuous improvement of environmental, safety and health processes and systems consistent with corporate policies and performance standards as well as compliance with applicable regulations. This person will also serve as a catalyst and expert resource to promote and develop an innovative and proactive safety culture.


Responsibilities:

  • Providing expertise for local management regarding enviromental, safety and health issues and applicable regulations
  • Advising and assisting local management in implementing, managing and auditing within the framework of an innovative Enviromental, Health and Safety Management Systems in a manufacturing and construction setting.
  • Being an action figure in shifting our safety culture from rules and regulatory compliance to a safety culture developed as a behavior driven value at all levels of the organization.
  • Providing oversight expertise for incident investigations, development of corrective plans and follow-up actions to prevent recurrence
  • Ensure timely reporting and claims management for workers compensation, general liability and automotive liability
  • Coordinate health and industrial hygiene monitoring with risk management insurance provide
  • Develop departmental goals and strategies consistent with Plant, Corporate, and Operational goals and provide the leadership for the planning process to meet these goals
  • Ensure adequate record keeping and report filing for compliance
  • Interface effectively with all levels of the organization specifically the Union Leadership and hourly employees to engage them in appropriate safety behaviors
  • OSHA & MSHA compliance
  • Provide effective leadership and project management for specific projects, initiatives, and business processes needed to drive environmental and safety performance
  • Provide functional knowledge of key OSHA regulations and industry standards (i.e.: record keeping, confined space, machine safeguarding, USDOT, electrical safety, hazardous communications, and industrial hygiene monitoring
  • Work with leadership teams to identify and implement safety and health improvement opportunities based on employee feedback, observations, and data trends
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, local and Armstrong environmental regulations, policies, and standard operating procedures based on internal compliance program
  • Provide urgent response to operational safety issues 24/7
  • Provide direct instruction and supervision to 1-2 H&S Specialists

Requirements:

  • Occupational Safety Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience
  • Experience with Federal H&S Regulations
  • 5+ years of H&S experience in the construction materials or construction industry
  • Excellent communication skills, verbal and written
  • High level of computer proficiency in MS Office products
  • Expert knowledge of OSHA CFR 1910 and CFR 1926 regulations
  • Knowledge of environmental regulations 40 CFR
  • Strong analytical and technical skills
  • Nationally recognized Safety and Health Certifications preferred (ASP, CSP, CIH)
  • MSHA preferred

$100K DOE
