Senior Job Cost Accountant – Projects Controller

Description:

This position works closely with the Finance and Construction Management teams to evaluate ongoing construction contracts to analyze performance versus expectations and alert management to adverse trends. The candidate must have strong written and oral communication skills, experience with a variety of technical platforms, excellent analytical capabilities, a strong understanding of cost accounting (job cost and manufacturing) and familiarity with the heavy highway or heavy civil construction industry.

Responsibilities:

  • Communicate with Project Managers and track job related topics including bonding, insurance, liens and contract agreements
  • Prepare, submit and track prequalification packages
  • Transmitting required documents with contract owner, subcontractor, etc.
  • Track subcontractor prequalifications, certified payroll, payments, etc.
  • Review and analyze customer billings and payments
  • Evaluate ongoing contracts to determine performance versus expectations, alert management to adverse trends
  • Ensure quality over accounting transactions related to construction projects
  • Adjust job forecasts and prepare monthly accruals
  • Prepare and analyze WIP reports
  • Weekly monitoring of material inventories
  • Monthly accruals of energy expenses at plants and inventoried operating costs
  • Monthly update of standard cost and internal pricing systems
  • Yearly oversight of physical inventory reconciliation at quarries and plants, and updates of inventoried operating cost factors
  • Yearly preparation of various reports to support income tax returns and audited financial statement
  • Develop reports to present information to management in timely, meaningful way
  • Establish construction contracts in ERP system
  • Act as Contract Administrator for assigned contracts
  • Coordinate with the Information Technology department to develop reports to support objectives

Requirements:

  • Strong understanding of job cost accounting, materials cost accounting and financial accounting
  • Analytical focus to be able to identify trends, discover causes of variances, and identify improvement opportunities
  • Advanced MS excel experience
  • Strong skills with standard office software (MS Word, MS Outlook)
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Viewpoint ERP experience a huge plus

Salary:

$120,000 - $140,000 DOE
