Position Purpose and Nature of Work: To continue building on past success and prepare for the future, our recruiting client has an immediate opening for a Safety Director with experience in leading and growing a high performing safety culture. This role plays a key part in our recruiting clients strategy to be the preferred employer in the construction materials industry by shaping the culture to provide our employees with a safe and productive work environment. Success in this role requires exceptional and detailed knowledge in safety science and team motivation. The Safety Director will oversee our recruiting clients Safety Managers and provide the support and guidance necessary to help this team engage with the workforce to guide and implement the safety strategy. To excel in this position, applicants must have a professional management style and the ability to effectively communicate with executive leadership and lead high- performing teams in a fast-paced environment.

  • Develop and refine existing safety policies and programs, and ensure implementation in all company operations
  • Develop and exercise responsibility for protection of the company reputation with outside entities (regulatory, governmental, legal, medical and health, risk management, loss control)
  • Identify trends using internal data and develop plans to mitigate risk
  • Work with Management to track and develop key performance indicators to assist in reducing incidents
  • Exhibit a personal and professional adherence to a philosophy of empowerment of all employees to achieve self- compliance
  • Demonstrate commitment to all employees through training, mentoring, reinforcing, supporting and leading achievement of the core safety values and goals
  • Enact a fair safety discipline program
  • Implement and maintain risk management and loss prevention programs designed to ensure safety of the workforce with the goal of eliminating personal injury, property loss, general liability losses, and vehicle accidents
  • Manage efforts of Safety Managers and coordinate with management to provide industry leading safety service to all plant and field personnel.
  • Assist all levels of management with regulatory, statutory and company safety policy compliance
  • Provide training, support, program implementation and compliance guidance through site audits
  • Demonstrate strong leadership in and commitment to established safety & health policies
Provide liaison with legal, medical, insurance and regulatory enforcement persons and entities as needed to protect company personnel, reputation and assets


  • Bachelor’s Degree in Safety Management or related field preferred, with a minimum of 5-10 years of safety managerial experience, with progressive levels of responsibility
  • Familiarity with OSHA general industry and construction, MSHA Surface Mining, FHWA, FMCSA and State agency regulatory requirements
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to present information to a wide array of audiences
  • Demonstrated computer and technical skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Proven track record of success showing leadership on complex safety issues
  • Ability to work autonomously in a heavy industry environment
  • Ability to manage multiple projects at one time, and prioritize appropriately
  • Ability to work with flexible hours in an outdoor industrial environment
  • Safety certification(s) required
  • Environmental, W/C management, Drug/Alcohol program management, ADA and EEOC experience is a strong plus
  • Leadership, coaching, and mentoring skills to motivate teams to meet their full potential
  • Experience in managing and directing high performing teams
  • Provides effective and constructive feedback to help foster teamwork
  • Must pass a pre-employment physical and drug screen


$125K - $160K DOE
