Project Superintendent – Earthworks

We've partnered with a highly reputable Heavy Highway / General Contractor in the Carolinas to identify a qualified Project Superintendent, experienced in managing mid-size heavy highway (earthworks) construction projects.
Project types include large scale site developments contracts, airport reconstruction and DOT & local municipalities. The Superintendent provides overall on-site administrative and technical management on a construction project site, including the scheduling, coordination, supervision and safe work practices for all project activities, including GC and subcontractor personnel.

Responsibilities:

  1. Supervise construction efforts to ensure the project is constructed in accordance with the design, budget and schedule constraints. Includes interfacing with the client, client representatives, inspectors, governmental oversight officials, other contractors, suppliers and company project management.
  2. Effectively plan, direct and supervise workers engaged in construction activities, starting with mass grading and utilities.
  3. Follow all OSHA and company safety policies.
  4. Create and reinforce a culture of safety that creates no questions as to how an item should be done.
  5. Provide safety feedback and coaching to foreman and crews.
  6. Ensure all subcontractors are following company safety policies.
  7. Maintain a constant awareness of all onsite safety hazards.
  8. Conduct weekly safety training for employees.
  9. Know the details of the job and have a deep thorough understanding of project resource needs one week to three months in advance.
  10. Understand and implement all construction aspects of the contract and the project procedures.
  11. Interpret and be able to explain plans for construction projects to foreman and crews.
  12. Maintain contract submittal files and confirm materials ordered, delivered and installed conform to approved submittals.
  13. Maintain contract documents and prepare and/or maintain record drawings.
  14. Mark work areas and contact Dig Safe to locate utilities present on the job site. Make sure that the Dig Safe markings are maintained and renewed as necessary.
  15. Eliminate/minimize resource and cost surprises.
  16. Ensure that crews have the best available resources at the correct time.
  17. Create and reinforce a culture of continuous production improvement in the field by identifying and implementing changes that improve productivity.
  18. Ensure the project team knows the production expectations and actual production on a regular basis. Alert the project team of any other relevant or important information, including any potential issues with customers.
  19. Manage subcontractors and provide feedback on subcontractor performance.
  20. Coordinate assigned work with work of different crews, company departments and other contractors.
  21. Properly document the project. Maintain project quantity book and requisition quantity records.
  22. Record actual hours worked by reviewing and submitting time cards and other required documentation.
  23. Identify and develop field talent

Requirements:

· Minimum High School Diploma or GED · OSHA 30 hour training. · Valid driver’s license with clean driving record is required.· Excellent listening, written, and verbal communication skills. · Excellent supervisory skills. · Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail. · Excellent customer service skills. · Ability to simultaneously supervise a variety of items and people, which may change often. · Ability to travel to visit work sites. • Thorough knowledge of all aspects of earth construction (technology, equipment, methods), engineering methods and drawings, cost control and scheduling.• Knowledge of and ability to follow and enforce all applicable safety standards at all times. • Ability to make good, timely, and sound decisions. • Ability to maintain neat, professional appearance on job sites at all times.

Salary:

$120,000 - up DOE + company provided truck + full range of comprehensive benefits
